Copyediting & Proofreading

TRANSTEC – Proofreading:“Proofreading”, in the English-speaking language services profession, has the particular, narrow definition of checking final copy against author’s copy. One is checking, for instance, if the handwritten copy of the author was correctly typed into electronic copy.

This is getting a bit rare because authoring so often now originates in electronic form and what our clients are often, more formally, looking for is “copy editing” – checking for errors in presentation (spelling, grammar, idiom use, etc.) of a single, semi-final copy.

We offer both proofreading and copy editing services in all the languages we service.

TRANSTEC – Copy Editing:Copy editing is the final check for errors of spelling, grammar and idiomicity – “Idiomicity” meaning, for our present purposes, any small turns of phrase that make a work of writing sound strange rather than familiar to native speakers of that language.

All work accepted is examined and revised by a native speaker of the language involved who has extensive editorial experience in that language.

We ask clients to submit the work for our examination and quote. Our rates are competitive and depend first on the length of work (discounting rate per 250 words for longer works) and secondly on the quality of English in the work submitted – any individual quote involving a combination of the two.

TRANSTEC – Copy Writing:In general, “copy writing” might mean anything from a detailed history of a company to one or two pages of instructions concerning a product. These, rather than magical advertising jingles, are what we offer to do with a superior result.

But we are happy to write or edit (above) promotional material and have both the experience of:

  • doing fact-based copy writing which is sent on to an advertising agency to then develop a sales oriented presentation, and the experience of
  • doing the final (language use) copy editing on advertising agencies product promotion work for a client.
